In the year 2014 during my physicals my PCP warned me that my uterus is tilted and something seems to be growing. In ultrasound multiple fibroids in uterus were found, but my symptoms were not severe at that time. Size of uterus measured to 14.5x9.2x10.5 cm. Except for 4 days of moderate to heavy bleeding, my periods were regular and no pain experienced. No other health issues and a healthy eater. Later I was becoming anemic often and experiencing tiredness and hair loss. In 3 years one of my fibroid grow from Medium (5cm – 9 cm, Size of a peach to a large lemon) to Large (10 cm+ Size of a mango to a cantaloupe). Below listed order is what I tried for over a period of 3 years to shrink my fibroids after contacting Gynic:
(1) "Norethisterone acetate and ethinyl estradiol" birth control pills for a month and was getting intolerant head aches, mood swings so discontinued.
(2) In 2016, "Uterine Artery Embolization" (UAE) procedure - did not help me. Only 25% of the women with a small size of fibroids had success rate.
(3) Ate natural foods strictly away from fried & sugar foods to balance hormones. No sign of improvement but this helped to develop strong immunity which helped me down the road when I got my hysrectomy done.
(4) Mid year 2019, my bleeding was heavy with small clots for prolonged time say 9 to 12 days and the next cycle was coming early too. To stop the flow I was given "medroxyprogesterone-10mg" a day and then it increased upto 40 mg four months later. At this point I started considering Hysterectomy surgery.
(5) Beginning of 2020 I was bleeding profusely passing huge blood clots soaking thru my pants and bedsheets. Became anemic with symptoms like tingly/numb end of toes, hand fingers, back and fatigue all the time.Gynic gave 3 month LUPRON injection to stop bleeding. Then planned for surgery, but due to pandemic got delayed and I have to take second dose of 3-month Lupron.
I would not recommend Lupron for long term treatment as it depletes your bone density. It helped me stop bleeding and rise my blood levels. But it does come with side effects:
Headache and tiredness, Hot flashes, Night sweats, Bone pain esp.fingers/toes (body aches), mild swelling of the ankles/feet, hair thinning and dry, my legs ache and feel tingly/numb.
(6) Finally, I went thru Total Hysrectomy (where ovaries are left but uterus, tubes, & cervix removed) as I already have kids and not planning for anymore. It is supposed to be laproscopic quick 1 day hospital stay, but my surgery ended up open abdomen cut as the fibroid was tucked inside that couldn't be completely seen by ultrasound. Hence I ended up longer in hospital than needed with an infection after. It's been over 9 months since my surgery and all is well & normal now.
Note: Also, considered Myomectomy where only fibroids will be removed procedure. But then chances of reoccurring fibroids is high and nothing guaranteed to stop the monthly bleeding flow. Also, in my family history all women has fibroids and had performed Hysrectomy.
So ladies, do something when the fibroids are small (even when you do not have any symptoms be watchful) as they are much curable do not wait too long where the surgery get's complicated. Honestly I tried everything possible to avoid surgery, but if I have gone to surgery early my surgery would have been much easier. Also every one's body is different, so be sensitive to your bodies and make a decision but do not delay.
